about: intellectual advancement
Good music is so hard to find nowadays. I went all over town today (okay, technically yesterday, the 21st) looking for some CDs. I really wanted to trade in some older ones while I was at it, so I headed off to Wherehouse Music. Save for four lighted neon display cases, the place was gutted. Definitely didn't know about that. So the only other place that might have my choice and took CD trade-ins was Streetside Records, a 20 minute drive away. I'll do pretty much anything for music, so I took the drive. They didn't have my CD. They didn't have a Foo Fighters CD I wanted either. So I went to Borders, hoping I could get the CD even if I didn't get to trade in my old music. Once again, no dice. They didn't have Lucky Boys Confusion either. But I can't waste a good Borders visit like that, so I perused the books for about an hour, just picking up different books that caught my eye, seeing what I may want to read after I finish the rest of Jonathan Franzen's works. I may go back to Streetside tomorrow because I'm completely hooked now on a band called Cowboy Mouth. Maybe I could pick up their CD for cheap. Anyway, here's my list of "the arts" I'm currently wanting.
Music
"Dear Dorothy: The Oz Sessions" by The Chad Lawson Trio
"Are You With Me?" by Cowboy Mouth
"Throwing The Game" by Lucky Boys Confusion
"Saturate" by Breaking Benjamin
"The Colour and the Shape" by Foo Fighters
Books
Strong Motion by Jonathan Franzen (currently reading)
How To Be Alone: Essays by Jonathan Franzen
The Twenty-Seventh City by Jonathan Franzen
Twisted Web by Tom Grace
Take the Cannoli : Stories From the New World by Sarah Vowell
The Disturbed Writings of Adam Cochran by Adam Cochran
The Partly Cloudy Partriot by Sarah Vowell
A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers
Life of Pi by Yann Martel
A couple of those last books are maybes and I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but for the most part that's my upcoming schedule of intellectual advancement. Oh, and the "Dear Dorothy" album was the one I was really searching for. I think I may have to just get it from the official website. Or venture to University City to hit up Vintage Vinyl. Either way, it's gonna take some time to acquire it.
Intellectually excited,
Drew
