Caring A Little Less Every Day

date: June 20, 2003
time: 7:25 p.m.
about: first solo

I flew solo for the first time today. I did three full stop landings with my instructor then he departed the plane and I did three on my own. Half an hour of PIC (pilot in command) time. It went without a hitch, I kept my takeoffs and landings even, and didn't bring it in too hard. A little too high, but not hard. Then I got the traditional "clipping of the wings", where Nathan (my instructor) cut off the back of my shirt. I still don't know why, but now I have half a shirt. So I've flown an airplane by myself. How many seventeen-year-olds can say that, huh? Fifteen hours and counting, bring on the cross-countries.

On a related note, Nathan told me that I'll probably have my license within 90 days. My birthday? Nintey-seven days. That'll be a hell of a birthday present. I can have my birthday dinner anywhere I want. I'm thinking about flying my family up to Chicago to dine with my grandparents. Or maybe flying down to Springfield to eat at Lambert's. That'll be awesome.

I leave for Atlanta early tomorrow morning so I'll talk to yous guyses next Saturday, mmkay?

What am I gonna do with half a shirt?
